Hinjewadi already has six roads sanctioned two years ago but the plan is still on paper.

With an aim to highlight daily traffic issues and the crumbling infrastructure of Hinjewadi, a group of 50 volunteers, including techies, local residents and businessmen, have taken the initiative and formed an online petition called ‘Free-Up-Hinjewadi’ and requested people to sign it. The same would be taken up to the respective authorities in the days to follow for further action.

Hinjewadi IT park is the biggest hub of IT industry in India.Nearly 3 lakh employee work there.Traffic congestion during peak hours (7-10 am and 5-8:30 pm) adds to their woes. Hence residents, software professionals and businessmen came forward to bring a solution to this issue.

All companies from the IT parks have a total of 3,000 buses while employees have nearly about one lakh cars. The large number of two-wheelers also cannot be ignored. These vehicles have two prominent roads to enter Hinjewadi; Wakad to phase 1 and Bhumkar chowk to phase 1,2. Hence traffic congestion is unavoidable. Travel time for 2.5-km distance goes up to 50-60 minutes.

Traffic jam leaves students of Blue Republic School,Life Republic School in Hinjewadi and others to wait for hours. Convenor of Free-up-Hinjewadi movement, Sudhir Deshmukh said, “Movement does not blame government but comes up with a good plan. Our main target is to decongest areas that have good proposal of development mentioned in the petition.” Hinjewadi already has six roads sanctioned two years before but still not ready. There is also a need to widen roads of Pirangut--Nande-Chande, Maan-Mahalunge to phase 1 road and develop six-lane road of Wakad-Bhumkar chowk and Marunji.

Free-Up-Hinjawadi movement will continue till next Sunday.Interested citizens are requested to sign up on change.org petition.
