For Mumbai-bound traffic COEP suggested the closing of the central concrete road for Metro work and the diversion of all vehicles to the service road from Haris bridge up to MM signal chowk.
Traffic diversion plan for Pune Metro project lane 1 has been put forward by the joint initiative of Maha Metro and College of Engineering Pune (COEP).This traffic diversion plan will help fasten the Metro work which has to be completed in 30 months, according to information given by Shrinivas Kulkarni, chief conveyer of Maha Metro. This traffic diversion plan will be functional from June 24 on a trial basis.

This traffic diversion plan is created by Pratap Raval, professor of COEP. He said,”We have studied a lot for this diversion plan and also have taken reference from previous data that we had and then proposed a plan to Maha Metro which will be convenient for both Maha Metro and people’’.
Assistant commissioner of traffic police Rajendra Bhamre said,’’This traffic diversion plan is meant for people’s safety and security. We have to complete the Metro project on time if it is postponed, the cost will increase, hence to fasten Metro work we are planning a traffic diversion. While passing through this diversion lane, people should maintain the speed of their vehicle. We are planning to display a big poster with information about the diversions,” he added.
In the PCMC area Metro has 6 stations and work has been in progress from June 2017.Construction work is being carried out and in the present situation, traffic is moving on a concrete road in single lane near the Metro work site which is congested and causing inconvenience to traffic and the public.
For Mumbai-bound traffic COEP suggested the closing of the central concrete road for Metro work and the diversion of all vehicles to the service road from Haris bridge up to MM signal chowk.
From MM signal chowk, Mumbai-bound traffic can use both central concrete road as well as a service road up to Nashik phata. From Nashik phata intersection, Mumbai-bound traffic is diverted to a service road upto Kharalwadi.
For Pune-bound traffic, the merging at Kharalwadi is required to close. From Kharalwadi to Nashik phata and from MM signal to Harris Bridge, one lane will be available for vehicles.
Necessary informatory sign boards are required to inform all commuters 500 m from diversion .Required traffic wardens shall also be deployed at site.
