A major fire broke out in PGIMER-Chandigarh's Nehru Hospital block late on Monday where more than 400 patients were evacuated to safety, officials said on Tuesday. No casualties were reported in the incident. (ANI )

The fire broke out in the UPS system of the computer room on the first floor around 11.45 pm on Monday. Officials mentioned that the smoke spread to the upper floors as well.(ANI )

Those evacuated encompassed 34 individuals from the intensive care unit (ICU) and 80 pregnant women. Additionally, 56 infants and 17 patients receiving treatment in the pediatric ward were relocated to a safe area.(ANI )

Fire tenders were immediately pressed into service and brought the blaze under control after some time, the officials added. (ANI )

"We evacuated 424 patients. We have an extension building in Nehru Hospital where some of them were shifted. Everyone worked as a team in PGI with the Chandigarh Union Territory administration's support," PGIMER Medical Superintendent Vipin Koushal was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. (ANI )
