The wildfire that started near the Greek capital earlier this week continues to rage on, and it is predicted to expand even more on Wednesday due to stronger winds. Greek authorities have ordered the evacuation of several areas around the blaze.(AFP)

On Wednesday morning more than 200 firefighters, seven planes and eight helicopters were working to contain the conflagration, while many residents are choosing to stay in the area to protect their homes. (AFP)

"We kept the fire away from homes," Stathis Topalidis, deputy mayor of Menidi, told state broadcaster ERT on Wednesday. "Unfortunately the wind isn't helping at all," he added. (AFP)
