The road construction department has proposed construction of two new flyovers - one from Chiraiyatand to Karbighaiya and from Mithapur to Bhikhari Thakur railway overbridge via R-Block-to resolve the frequent problem of traffic jams on the existing routes.

If the state government’s plans translate into reality, vehicle owners will have an option to bypass traffic congestion at Patna Junction while travelling to the state secreteriat and Kankarbagh area.

The road construction department has proposed construction of two new flyovers - one from Chiraiyatand to Karbighaiya and from Mithapur to Bhikhari Thakur railway overbridge via R-Block-to resolve the frequent problem of traffic jams on the existing routes.

The bridge construction wing of the department, Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) has prepared the detailed project reports (DPR) for the two flyovers, costing about Rs 288 crore, and waiting for the cabinet approval to star working on them.

As proposed, the existing ramp of the Mithapur overbridge, falling on the Karbigahiya side, south of Patna Junction, will be demolished to pave way for its direct link with Chiraiyatand overbridge from Postal Park side.

Managing director of the BRPNNL RSP Singh said that the department had proposed the construction of a One side ramp which will lead to southern entrance of Patna junction, and another to lead off to bus stand Another flyover, connecting Yarpur ROB with Mithapur.

“Both the flyovers have been planned to do away with frequent traffic jams around Patna junction,” said Singh.

Department officials claimed, that traffic on roads leading to Patna junction from north end would be scaled down considerably after completion of an under-construction Mithapur-Chiraiyatand flyover via Frazer road.

The flyover is likely to be inaugurated by the year-end near Gandhi Maidan.

“Once both the under construction flyovers are finished, those going to Gandhi Maidan from R-Block would not need to negotiate their way through the crowded Station Road or the Exhibition Road,” said the officials.
