PMO initiative: CBI to probe Bihar missing girl’s case

Upon the intervention of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the CBI will take over from the Bihar police the investigation of the kidnapping of a girl who had been abducted in September 2012.

Navruna Chakravarty, then 12, went missing from her home in Muzaffarpur, north Bihar, on the night of September 18-19.

Acting on a request from Navruna’s uncle, Navajeet Chakravarty, the PMO forwarded a letter it had received from him in June to the department of personnel and training (DoPT), under which the CBI functions, for “action as appropriate”.

On January 13, the state government handed over the probe to the Criminal Investigation Department, which failed to make any breakthrough. It was then that Navajeet Chakravarty approached the PMO on the matter.

Navruna’s parents had refused to give their blood samples to the Bihar police for matching them with a skeleton found near their home. They insisted they would give their blood samples only to the CBI.

Navruna’s father, Atulya Chakravarty, said he had heard that the CBI was preparing to start investigation but so far nobody had contacted him.
