The incident took place late in the night on February 2 but it has come to light only now. The development followed in the wake of the alleged maiming of 20-year-old Arwal daily wage labourer Ram Sagar Chandravanshi by village toughs for his inability to repay a Rs 300 debt.

Nawada superintendent of police (SP) Surendra Lal Das said the victim, Ram Briksh Prasad, 35, a resident of Uswaha Tola in Kemai village of Nawada, was undergoing treatment at the sadar hospital.

According to the SP, Prasad had sold a cow to Pratima Devi for R7,000, around eight months ago. When Pratima did not pay him the money, he asked her sister Gayatri, with whom he was acquainted, to intervene. But she told him to approach Pratima directly. But Prasad, apparently, tried to blackmail her.

On the night of February 2, Prasad again visited Gayatri to call in the debt incurred by Pratima. “This time Gayatri and her companion, Bhudan Mahto, called Prasad in, overpowered him and cut off his genital organ. Bleeding profusely, he fled from the spot, as did Gayatri”, the SP said.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Prasad, the police have arrested Bhudan, while both Gayatri and Pratima are absconding. “The incident appears to be the fallout of a tiff over money. The protagonists seem to be well known to each other. Investigation is going on,” the SP added.
