Father wants CBI probe

The killing of 26-year-old Rahul Raj by Mumbai Police on Monday has raised quite a few eyebrows here, especially at his home. His father Kundan Prasad Singh said he was seeking legal opinion for lodging a complaint against the Maharashtra police chief for killing his son in a fake encounter.

Singh, a retired pilot who now runs a motor garage in the city’s Kadamkuan area, asked: “How can a youth, who reached Mumbai on October 25 evening to appear for an interview, procure a gun and fire at a passenger in a double-decker bus a day after?”

Singh said Rahul left for Mumbai on October 24 by Lokmanya Tilak Express and “while leaving home, he said he was going to Mumbai to appear for a walk-in interview at a hospital”.

“How can I believe that a boy, who had never been involved in any criminal incident, would suddenly indulge in a firing spree in an unknown city?” Claiming that it was murder in cold blood, Singh demanded a CBI probe.

He also demanded that the post mortem be done in the presence of a representative of the National Human Rights Commission and a magistrate and “the entire process be videographed”.

Singh also urged the Bihar government to set up a medical board to have another post-mortem done here, if required. He also demanded foolproof security for his family while bringing Rahul’s body to Patna. “I have no faith in Mumbai police,” he added.

Family sources said Rahul was looking for a job after completing his para-medical course from the Patna-based Indian Institute of Health Education and Research about three years ago.
