Dharmveer Kumar, along with his six associates, was arrested on Tuesday for cheating youths of lakhs of rupees in the name of providing jobs.
The arrests came following raids on ICD Company in Shambhu Nath Plaza on Jamal Road under Gandhi Maidan police station. A police team led by DSP (Town) Manoj Kumar Tiwari seized Rs. 1.5 lakh, certificates, appointment letters, interview call letters and other related documents from the office.
Senior SP Amrit Raj said some job aspirants from Lakhimpur-Kheri in UP lodged a complaint against the placement agency.
They told him that the agency had lured several unemployed village youths by promising lucrative jobs in metropolitan cities.
“Earlier, the agency collected Rs. 9,500 per youth in the name of interview. Later, the candidates were sent to Kolkata on different addresses.
When they reached Kolkata, they discovered that the addresses were fake. When the job aspirants frantically tried to contact the placement agency, nobdoy took their phone calls.
Apprehensive, some candidates informed the police,” said the SSP.
During interrogation, Dharmveer, a resident of Ashok Nagar in Patna, told the police that the idea for running a job racket germinated after he himself was taken for ride by a placement agent.
Unable to get a job, he later opened his own agency and started sending candidates to Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.
The police said the agency had engaged a number of agents to lure the unsuspecting unemployed, mostly from villages.
The accused frequently changed base on the pretext of completing paper work.
They used to place advertisements in newspapers, particularly in editions outside Bihar, to lure gullible youth. The jobseekers, who contacted them on the given number, would be called at a ‘consultancy office’.
Those arrested have identified as Anirudh Kumar (Paliganj), Vijay Prakash (Rukunpura), Ajay Kumar (Samastipur), Sujit Kumar (Naubatpur), Guddu (Samanpura) and Anirudh Kumar Singh.
