Bihar: Man tied to bike, set on fire

A man was tied to his motorcycle and set on fire over a suspected property dispute in Bihar's Bhagalpur last Thursday.

The body of the victim, Chandan Choudhary, 25, was found by the police from near a temple on Friday. It was charred and still tied to the bike.

Choudhary had been appointed in the electricity department on compassionate grounds after death of his father Nandu Choudhary. He was to join his new job in couple of days. On Thursday night, he had a dinner with his wife Priti Devi and two children to celebrate the job.

According to Choudhary’s wife, one Nakul Yadav came to Choudhary’s residence and asked him to come out for a discussion on an "important matter".

The victim left his house on his motorbike along with Nakul, never to return. Next morning, his charred body was found.

Police said the evidence on ground suggested the assailants had beaten Choudhary mercilessly and when he became unconscious, they tied him to his motorbike and set him on fire.

“Preliminary investigations have indicated the victim and the assailant(s) had consumed liquor," said an official.

Local police station in-charge Vijay Kumar Sharma said Choudhary was murdered “apparently over some property-related dispute”. The body had been sent for post-mortem, he said. The victim's wife has lodged an FIR.

“We are examining the mobile call details of the victim and the suspects on the basis of names furnished by his wife. Three suspects have been arrested in this connection so far,” the officer said.
