Plans to stop bureaucrats from running sports in UP
Buoyed by response of the newly applied Sports Ordinance, UP now plans to restrain Govt employees from sport, reports Sharad Deep.
Buoyed by the response of the newly applied Uttar Pradesh Sports Ordinance, which aims to clip the wings of high-flying sports associations/federation, the State Government now has plans to restrain State Government employees from becoming office-bearers of any sports associations/federations.

The Government, sources add, is also planning a GO in this connection, and if that is done than it would have a direct impact on at least 25 associations/federations, where their presidents are either IPS or IAS officials.
The move comes in the wake of the State Government's refusal to three officials for a free trip to the Athens Olympics on tickets offered by the private organization.
"Where is the need to involve government officials in a sports association when most of them don't even know about the game?" asked a top government official.
"There are other ways to make a mark in society. If they really want to do something for sports promotion they can do it without holding a post," the official added.
