Apart from his appearance, an addition of five kilos to the lithe frame, a fallout of the wrist injury Alvaro Quiros suffered late last year was that he’s “spent too much time on the couch”.

While some of it was spent catching up with friends, the 6’3’’ Spaniard, who was ranked 77th in the world when he went off the radar for surgery in November, a significant portion was taken up by a passion.

An ardent fan of James Bond, Quiros has the entire 007 collection captured in DVDs, and they occupy a prominent spot in the living room. Back in action, Quiros will be testing out the left wrist at the Avantha Masters this week.

Out of focus
Refreshed, he feels “out of focus” on the course though. Blame it on the break or an overdose of Bond, Quiros is unwilling to profess.

The release of Skyfall, the latest in the series, coincided with his recuperation, and with little else to do, the finger was on the play button most of the time.

Not only did he refresh memories of the “golden age”, Daniel Craig’s pyrotechnics have played many times over too.

“Five times,” he winked, the latest screening happening onboard the flight to Delhi.

The blonde Craig’s toned appearance and a peek into GenX technology do appeal on the screen, but it is the charm of the bygone era that has stayed on. Roger Moore and Sean Connery are still the best of the lot.

“Perfect gentlemen, their demeanour,” said Quiros, before hastening to add, “well, with due respect to Craig.”

Matter of choice, one would say.
