Like his game, SSP Chowrasia’s bearing has changed course. Gone are the quiet ways and in place is a bubbly being. Soon after submitting his card that confirmed his status as the Solaris Chemtech Open champion, the lean figure bounded down the stairs of the scoring area, exclaiming, “The time’s come.” Robin Bose reports.

It was in February 2008 that Chowrasia had emerged from the shadows to win the tri-sanctioned $2.5 million Indian Masters at the Delhi Golf Club. Thereafter, drought set in but while traversing through the barren wilderness, the belief stayed that this was but a passing phase.

Even after Friday’s round of 73 at the Classic Golf Resort, which saw him slip from second to fourth, the faith held firm. “I told myself a bad day had passed and on Saturday was going to be different,” he said.

Teeing off four strokes shy of R Murthy, Chowrasia made it clear that he intended to back words with action. Four-under after the front nine and a birdie on the 10th meant he had pulled level with the overnight leader, who birdied the 4th. Murthy threw the gauntlet by saving a shot on the 12th but Chowrasia delivered the KO by holing a 30-feet putt for eagle on the 14th.
