Brazil played like the champions they are and came back strongly whenever the chips were down. They prevailed over Cuba 30-28 in a humdinger of a first set and then surged ahead again by winning the third.

Cuba kept their chances alive by winning the second and fourth sets, but the decider was an anticlimax of sorts as Brazil struck back with vengeance, capitalising on their mistakes to romp home 15-8. India's Naveen Raja Jacob Manidurai was declared the best server, while teammate Gurinder Singh finished the third best scorer.
