When the selection committee meets in New Delhi on Wednesday to pick the 10m air rifle team for the Commonwealth Games, India's only individual Olympic gold-medallist, Abhinav Bindra, will need 'grace marks' to make the cut.
The champion shooter finished third, behind Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput, in the overall standings after the final selection trials that concluded in Pune on Tuesday. The standings were collated after taking the average of players' performance in two trials and the World Championship.
Only two shooters can participate in the event. However, Bindra will get three bonus points by virtue of being an Olympic medallist and nosed ahead of Rajput in the final standings.
National shooting coach Sunny Thomas confirmed that the selection criteria clearly states that an Olympic medallist and shooters in top-five in the world rankings get three bonus points.
