Two persons died when a speeding truck rammed into a stationary dumper, 21 km from the zero point on the Yamuna Expressway, on Friday morning.

The victims have been identified as Shivpal (30) and Manoj (28). Shivpal was the driver of the truck while Manoj was the helper.
“A tyre of the dumper was deflated and it was parked in the second left lane of the expressway. The truck was plying in the same direction and its driver, Shivpal, reportedly failed to spot the dumper. The accident was so severe that Shivpal died on the spot,” said Krishnveer Singh, in charge, Rabupura police station.
Manoj was injured and an ambulance of the expressway rushed him to a nearby hospital but he was declared dead on arrival, the police said.
“Shivpal and Manoj were residents of Mainpuri. They used to ferry vegetables. The incident took place when they were on their way to Delhi. Their families have been informed about the incident. The bodies were sent for postmortem and the reports are awaited,” said Singh.
The police registered a case against unidentified persons as the driver of the dumper fled the spot after the accident, leaving his vehicle there.
“We have seized both the vehicles. The owner of the dumper has been called for identification of the driver. The driver of the dumper had not parked the vehicle in the right place and this led to the accident. He also did not use any measure to inform other commuters that his vehicle was parked there. He will be arrested soon,” said Singh.
The police said they have asked the expressway administration to submit the CCTV footage of the area for investigation.
“Most accidents on the Yamuna Expressway involve a heavy vehicle. Drivers are advised to strictly follow the traffic rules while using the expressway. We will soon launch an awareness campaign for this,” said Singh.
