Two engineering graduates held for duping people in Noida

The city police have arrested two engineering graduates for their alleged involvement in duping people on the pretext of providing insurance and interest free loans to them, the police said. The accused, Mohit Chaudhary and Amitesh, both engineering graduates, were arrested by the city police on Thursday from Sector 3.

“Ganesh Shankar , an IT company employee, had approached the police to complain against a person who duped him off Rs 7 lakh on the pretext of providing insurance and interest-free loan worth Rs 26 lakh. The police team put the mobile number of the suspects on surveillance and nabbed them from Sector 3,” said Dinesh Yadav, superintendent of police (SP), Noida.

The victim told the police that he had received a call from a person who introduced himself as Rajeev Aggrawal, a member of insurance regulatory and development authority (IRDA). He said Rajeev offered him a loan worth Rs 26 lakh, if he buys an insurance policy of Rs 7 lakh.

“The victim said a couple of months ago, he met the suspect and deposited Rs 7 lakh for the insurance policy. After that, the suspect gave him two bank drafts of Rs 11 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. When he visited a bank to cash the drafts, the bank employees told him that the drafts were fake,” Yadav said.

The police said both the accused switched off their phones after duping Ganesh. However, the police managed to track them through surveillance and found that they used fake names and designations to dupe people.

“The accused were jobless from quite some time. But they have Rs 17 lakh in their account. During questioning, they confessed to duping more people in a similar manner,” Yadav said.

Both the accused were produced in the court and were sent to jail.
