Noida SSP gets twitter account, seek volunteers for traffic management

The city police chief launched his twitter account to communicate with the residents. Police said the account was formed on Saturday and was formally activated from Sunday. The senior superintendent of police, Kiran Sivakumar said the residents can tweet their grievances, complaints and suggestions at @sspnoida.

“This twitter account is being personally handled by me and a small team. This will not only help in managing the traffic but also help people engage with the police and inform about the incidents of suspicious activity they have spotted,” Sivakumar told HT.

On Monday, the SSP sought volunteers for traffic police through his twitter account. The police sought details of the interested candidates on twitter through #noidatrafficcop or a whatsapp message with personal details of the candidates on traffic police helpline number 7065100100.

“We need volunteers for traffic management in the city. The response of ‘police mitra’ scheme, under which we had hired volunteers for police stations, is very good. We want to hire volunteers for traffic police on the similar basis for better management of traffic specially on places where traffic jam is common during peak hours,” Sivakumar added.

He said a verification of the candidates will be done and the shortlisted people will be called for an interview by senior police officials before being recruited as a volunteer. The process of hiring will start within 30 days.

“Also, I have requested the students and residents to come forward with their ideas to control crime and traffic management in their areas. Police can not work in isolation and co-operation of the residents is very crucial. Also, people who want to share something with us, they can send us messages. Their identity will not be disclosed,” Sivakumar said.

The SSP Noida’s twitter handle has gained 107 followers in two days. “We are hoping for an expansion of the twitter account to reach among the youth,” he said.
