Noida authority to fix encroachment, garbage issues

The sanitation department will install ramps at garbage collection points to ensure that the pick-up trucks go all the way in and don’t spill any trash outside.

The decision was taken after Noida authority officials inspected certain areas by invitation from the residents’ welfare associations and discussed various sanitation and encroachment related issues plaguing the residents.

While residents of Sector 34 met officials of the sanitation department, those of Sector 51 met officials of the horticulture department.

The officials of the sanitation department took a note of all residents’ problems. “We will ensure that ramps are installed at the collection points so that trucks can go all the way in and collect garbage,” Vijay Rawal, project engineer, public health 1, Noida authority, said.

“Garbage has been a problem in our area for a very long time. The garbage collection points are overflowing and it is scattered on the roads making things difficult for locals,” KK Jain, president, Dhawalgiri apartments, Sector 34, said.

“These places have become mosquito breeding grounds. Also, the drains have not been cleaned in a while. This leads to choking and waterlogging even in case of light rain,” Jain said, adding that most of the markets in the sector don’t have dustbins, which leads to haphazard garbage disposal.

“We have 14 multi-storey apartments in the sector. The garbage from these societies is collected after the authority trucks have already left, and the smell becomes unbearable,” Jain said.

“We will also provide 10 dustbins for all the markets in the area and all our rag-pickers have been instructed to not dump any garbage between 10am and 5pm, otherwise we will levy a fine of ₹5,000 on them,” Rawal said.

Residents of Sector 51 discussed various encroachment-related problems with officials of the horticulture department. “The residents of Sector 51 want a demarcation between their colony and the nearby Hoshiyarpur village. Residents are also troubled by the parking of private school buses right outside their houses,” NP Singh, president, Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Associations, said.

Residents also brought up issues of blocked drains, poor quality of water, lack of public toilets, lack of grilles on boundary walls, lack of proper walking tracks in public parks and requested that public fountains be made functional.

“The main problem was the lack of public toilets in the children’s park and the lack of street lamps in the area. Once the residents submit written complaints, suitable action will be taken,” RK Mathur, assistant general manager, Noida authority, said.
