Noida authority may build multilevel parking lots in all sectors

The Noida authority is conducting a survey to identify land for constructing multilevel car parking facilities in residential and industrial areas. Officials said they aim to provide adequate space for car parking and reduce congestion on roads.

In the absence of adequate parking space in residential and industrial areas, motorists are in the habit of parking their vehicle on roads, thereby causing traffic jams.

Officials said that the authority is likely to construct multilevel parking facilities on any available land, irrespective of the land use, be it residential, industrial or commercial.

The authority’s additional chief executive officer Rakesh Kumar Mishra has conducted a survey and submitted the same to the Noida authority’s chief executive officer Amit Mohan Prasad for his decision on the issue.

“I am yet to read the survey report submitted to my office. We will study the report, discuss it and take appropriate decision on it. Our objective is to ensure smooth flow of traffic on roads. We will build parking facilities provided there is land available in the area where there is a need, as per the survey report,” Amit Mohan Prasad, chief executive officer of the Noida authority, said.

Residents and owners of industrial units have been demanding a multilevel car parking facility in many sectors because they have to park their vehicles on roads. However, the authority officials are of the view that parking crisis is a result of the violations of building by-laws.

“Many industrial unit owners have been running commercial activities or have let out premises for commercial purposes. They (commercial units) need more parking space as compared to industrial units. The violations of building by-laws cause traffic congestion. If building owners stop violating building by-laws and stop parking cars on roads, it will solve most of the problems. The building owners should not use parking space for other purposes,” said Prasad.

There are over five lakh registered vehicles in Gautam Budh Nagar and each month, about 3,200 new vehicles are registered in the district, a majority of which are in Noida. However, the parking space is not increasing in proportion to the sale of new vehicles.

The authority said it will create parking facilities for 13,500 vehicles in different areas by the end of 2017-18.

The survey conducted by the authority has identified the total need for parking space and available parking space.

“We have given details of available parking spaces in commercial and residential areas. We have also mentioned the space required for parking, based on the number of vehicles, in different areas,” Rakesh Kumar Mishra, an additional chief executive officer of the Noida authority, said.
