No power cuts this summer: Supply to 10 residential sectors in Noida will improve within a week
The residential areas to be benefitted include sectors 82, 92, 93, 101, 104, 105, 107, 108, 110, 135, Bhangel, Gejha, Salarpur, Hajipur. Besides these, over 1000 industrial units in sectors 80, 81, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, hosiery complex and Noida Special Economic Zone.
Power supply will improve in 10 residential sectors and over 1,000 industrial units in the Phase 2 area of Noida within a week. To upgrade the capacity of lines supplying power to 132 kV substation at Bhangel, old conductors are being replaced by high-temperature low-sag (HTLS) overhead line conductors.

“The transmission substation in Sector 129 supplies power to the Bhangel substation. As the transmission lines were old, they could take the load of 80 MVA to 90 MVA. But with these special conductors (HTLS), which can carry one and half times more current than the ones already installed, the lines will be able to take load of 130 MVA,” said Puneet Gupta, executive engineer, Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL).
The HTLS conductors can withstand higher temperature and carry higher energy, he added.
Gupta said the work on replacing conductors is on and it is likely to be completed by April 5. “After replacing HTLS lines and conducting some trials at the substation, consumers in the affected areas will be able to get better supply within a week,” he said.
As for the relief from power cuts, Gupta said,“With the existing lines, power cuts from one to two hours a day take place in these areas that go up to two to three hours during peak summer. However, once HTLS conductors are in place, there will be no power cuts. Consumers will be able to see the difference during peak summer when the load increases.”
Gupta said for laying HTLS conductors, some short duration power cuts will be effected in some areas on Saturday and Sunday. “There will be a power cut of 30 minutes thrice after a gap of two hours between 8am and 5pm on Saturday along the Noida-Greater Noida expressway near Sector 82 and Panchsheel Inter College,” he said.
“The same scheduled power cut will take place in Sector 82, Basant Nagar, Bhangel and Taj Road on Sunday. Similarly, there will be a power cut of one hour thrice between 8am and 5pm on Sunday in Sector 132,” Gupta said.
