Nine bodies of women found in 14 months, only one case solved

The Noida police are having a tough time cracking cases pertaining to the bodies of unidentified women that have been recovered from the twin cities.

Over nine such bodies were recovered from various spots in Noida and Greater Noida in the last 14 months but only one case has been cracked, that too by the Delhi Police.

The latest one was the body of a 25-year-old woman found near Shahdara village on Monday. The police have registered a case but are yet to identify the body.

On December 24, 2014, a pregnant woman was found shot in a park in Sector 55.

On January 2, 2015, a woman’s body was found near the Sector 135 which lies on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

On January 6, 2015, the severed torso of a 30-year-old woman was found in a drain at Sector 35.

On February 1, 2015, body of a woman was found on a footpath in Dadri. A case of murder was registered but the body is yet to be identified.

On March 7, 2015, the police found a woman’s body in a drain near the ATS Society. A case of murder was registered at the Kasna police station.

On March 8, 2015, body of a pregnant woman and a 9-month-old baby were found on the roadside in Dadri.

The Delhi police had arrested the key conspirator in this case as an accused in another crime.

Two more unidentified bodies of women in their early 30s were found in Sector 11 of Noida and Kasna in Greater Noida last August.

The police have failed to make arrests in any of the cases.

“The major challenge is to identify the bodies. Officials cannot investigate the case without an identification. We need to create a system by which details can be put in the public domain so the residents can come up with information pertaining to cases,” said Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.

Yadav said the police is considering the use of social media and other technology to reach out to people with the details of the bodies.

“As far as investigation is concerned, the police have done everything to identify the bodies. The details (of the bodies) were uploaded on Zipnet, a network under which officials of all states share details of missing persons, but no progress was made,” Yadav said.

The police also called a meeting of the district crime records bureau (DCRB) from all 70 districts of the state and checked the details of missing persons.

Seven police teams from Greater Noida had gone to neighbouring states and cities in search of missing women but did not get any breakthrough.

“I have asked the officials concerned to pull up their socks and solve the pending cases,” Yadav said.
