NIA DSP’s killer has murdered eight people: Special task force

The special task force of Uttar Pradesh police revealed that Muneer, the key accused in murder of NIA DSP Tanzeel Ahmad and his wife Farzana, was involved in two cases of shooting and robbery in Lucknow in which one person died.

Muneer, who was arrested on June 28, has now a total of eight murder cases against his name as per the new findings.

“During his questioning, we verified his statements with the incidents that took place in the state. It was found that Muneer and his accomplice shot two persons in Lucknow and fled the city. The local police stations were informed about the development,” said RK Mishra, deputy superintendent of police, STF west.

The police said Muneer was arrested while travelling on a Pulsar motorcycle. It was found that he had shot dead a person in Lucknow to steal the bike and later used the same bike to shoot a policeman to snatch his pistol, the police said.

“In November 2015, Muneer was in Lucknow in search of a bike and a high powered pistol to kill Tanzeel. He spotted a person on a brand new Bajaj Pulsar near Lohia crossroads in Gomti Nagar on November 18. He immediately asked his accomplice Saud to chase him. The victim, Naman Verma, a private firm employee, was descending the flyover and speaking on the phone,” Mishra said.

Police said Saud and Muneer forced him to stop and tried to snatch his bike. When he resisted, Muneer shot him in the leg. Verma still didn’t give up and caught the revolver.

“Muneer then shot him in the abdomen and he fell from bike. Muneer and Saud fled from and Verma later died in the hospital,” Mishra said.

With the stolen motorbike, which had no registration plate, Muneer planned to rob a 9 mm pistol to kill Tanzeel. Muneer spotted a person wearing a safari suit and carrying a pistol. After watching the person for two-three days, Muneer decided to steal his pistol.

“He shot the man, sub-inspector Pramod Kumar, on November 25 near the railway crossing at Lohia Nagar and stole his 9 mm service pistol. Muneer and Saud fled the spot. Kumar survived the bullets wounds,” Mishra said.

Muneer shot NIA DSP Tanzeel Ahmad and his wife Farzana at Bijnor area on the night of April 2 as he suspected Tanzeel of “leaking information about his gang as they both belonged to the same village”.
