Greater Noida residents complain against illegal hostels running in colonies

Residents of colonies in Greater Noida have approached senior police officials asking them to ensure that those living in hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodations in their areas do not create nuisance at night.

Residents of Beta 1, Beta 2 and NSG housing complex have separately complained to police against illegal hostels running in residential areas. They said occupants of these hostels cause disturbances, especially at night.

“There are dozens of colleges in Greater Noida but they do not have hostels to accommodate all outstation students. Many house owners, who live in other cities, are these days renting their house for running hostel or PG accommodations. This is leading to problems in residential societies as some the occupants create ruckus,” said Harender Bhati, member of Active Citizen Team and president of Beta 1 residents’ welfare association.

Last week, residents of NSG housing complex had approached the superintendent of police (rural) Abhishek Yadav to complain against two illegal PG accommodations in their locality. The residents claimed that the occupants of these hostels create nuisance.

“A number of youngsters mostly students, live in the illegal hostels and PGs. Owners of these hostels have deputed bouncers to stop anybody from raising a voice. Students in these flats create a ruckus at night. On an average, they have two-three visitors every day and these visitors park their vehicles on internal roads, blocking the way,” said Rajkumar Singh, a resident of NSG housing residential complex.

Surit Chaudhary, a BTech student who lives in a PG in Beta 1, said, “These accommodations are cheap so students opt for them. There may be illegal hostels in the locality and some occupants may have caused ruckus, but the RWAs cannot treat all student alike. We are here to study and the RWAs should identify those who cause nuisance.”

Superintendent of police Abhisek Yadav said the police post officers have been asked to keep an eye on the hostels and PGs and call the owners for questioning whenever required.

“I have asked the officials concerned not to take such complaints lightly. Nobody wants to register a case against those running PGs or hostels. The local police post in charge will pay frequent visits in the area to take stock of the situation,” said Yadav.
