The deceased, Umesh Chand, 30, from Etah, was driving towards Greater Noida in his mini truck with his wife, two children and sister. At about 4 am, nearly 16 km before zero point, he failed to spot a stationary truck and rammed it at very high speed.

“Passersby informed the police about the incident and an ambulance rushed to the spot. Umesh’s son Gagan, 5, was found dead on the spot. The injured were taken to the Kailash Hospital where Umesh and his sister Usha also succumbed to his injuries,” said Anil Pratap Singh, station house officer, Dankaur police station.

Police said the impact of the accident was such that rescuers had to cut open the mangled mini truck to pull out the injured.

Umesh’s wife Annu, 26, and daughter Mahi, 1, are admitted at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital in a critical condition, police said.

“We have registered an FIR against an unidentified person. The truck was parked illegally at a no parking area. We have summoned the owner of the truck to identify the driver, who fled from the spot,” said Singh.

The bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem, reports of which are awaited. Police suspect that Umesh fell asleep at the wheel, which might have caused the accident.

Jay Narayan, Usha’s husband, however, accused the truck for the accident and demanded arrest of the driver.

“It was not the fault of Umesh. The truck was parked wrong,” he told police.

“None of the injured is in a condition to give a statement. We have informed the family of the deceased about the incident. Bodies will be handed over to them after postmortem,” said Singh.
