Aggarwal said the fire broke out around 3.30 am. “While we were sleeping, we heard screams of our tenants. When we ran outside, we saw that the building had caught fire. The fire department was late in responding and, as a result, the fire spread to four rooms,” Aggarwal said.

Chief fire officer, Gautam Budh Nagar, Sunil Kumar Singh, citing official records, said, “We received an information regarding the incident around 4.15 am and fire tenders reached the spot at 4.28 am. We were not late. The victim took too much time to inform the fire department. We found a minor blaze as by that time the fire had burned down. It was controlled immediately.”
