‘Environmental Pledge Day’ to be held in Noida, Greater Noida on March 3

The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration will organise a “Paryavaran Sankalp Diwas” (Environmental Pledge Day) on March 3 for people to take a pledge to conserve the environment.

The day will be marked by activities such as formation of human chain, street plays, oath-taking ceremony and free pollution check of vehicles. Messages will also be put on social media sites to mark the day.

Giving details of the programme, district magistrate NP Singh said,“An oath-taking ceremony to conserve the environment will be held from 9am to 11am in all educational institutions, factories, offices and commercial establishments on Friday. Caps and stickers on the day will also be distributed.”

To spread the message of environmental conservation, a human chain will also be formed from gate number 4 of the Noida stadium in Sector 21 at 8am.

Messages related to the day and environment conservation will be telecast on LED screens installed near The Great India Place (TGIP) mall, Dalit Prerna Sthal and the Noida golf course.

Street plays will also be held from morning till evening near the TGIP mall, Mall of India and Spice Mall in Noida.

In Greater Noida, a free pollution under control (PUC) checking camp will be held at LG Chowk where an awareness programme will also be organised by a radio jockey.

In addition, autorickshaws and buses running across the district will also sport messages about Paryavaran Sankalp Diwas. Messages regarding the same will also be posted on Facebook and WhatsApp.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had on November 23, 2016, directed the district administration, the Uttar Pradesh pollution control board (UPPCB) and the Noida and Greater Noida authorities to take strict action against those flouting environment norms and causing pollution.

“Over 50% staff of various departments will extensively travel to various parts of the district to check any violation of NGT norms and take suitable penal action against the offenders,” said Singh.
