Discom offers surcharge waiver in Noida to collect dues

The power discom is offering a waiver of surcharge on arrears of pending electricity bills prior to March 31.

The discom, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam limited (PVVNL), has started the amnesty scheme for its domestic, commercial, private institutional, agricultural and, small and medium industrial consumers.

The power corporation has to recover arrears of nearly Rs35 crore from all categories of consumers.

As on March 31, there were 2,59,316 (urban and rural) domestic consumers in the district, 25,774 consumers having commercial connections and 9,541 industrial consumers registered with PVVNL. Officials said that electricity bills of nearly 10,000 consumers are yet to be cleared.

Mukul Singhal, superintending engineer, PVVNL, Gautam Budh Nagar, said that consumers under domestic, commercial, private institutional and agricultural categories have to deposit a registration fee of Rs1,000 with the discom by May 31, to avail of the waiver.

“A consumer under the specified categories will have to get a form from their respective divisional or subdivisional office and submit it along with the registration fee to the department. The electricity department will waive off 100% surcharge on the arrears and make the final bill in seven days,” said Singhal.

“Consumers will have to deposit the bill amount before the last date of payment, that is, June 14, to avail of the waiver. For rural consumers under these categories, the last date for registration is June 15 and the last date for revised bill payment is June 29,” he said.

Officials said that those having small and medium industrial connections have to deposit a registration fee of Rs5,000 by May 15 and they will be granted only 50% waiver of the surcharge. After getting a revised bill from the electricity department, the consumers under this category will have to deposit it by May 29 to avail of the waiver.

Officials said that only small and medium industrial consumers who have arrears of Rs10,000 and above qualify for the scheme.

Singhal said that consumers must follow the registration and payment deadlines to avail of the waiver.
