Dadri lynching: Ikhlaq’s family seeks FIR against three more

The counsel for Bisada lynching victim Mohammad Ikhlaq on Thursday said he would seek registration of FIRs against three more people who allegedly involved in the 52-year-old man’s killing.

The move comes after an Uttar Pradesh court on Thursday asked police to file an FIR for alleged cow slaughter against Ikhlaq’s family.

Counsel Yusuf Saifi, who is representing Ikhlaq’s family, said three more residents of Bisada, who testified during the hearing and confessed to having been present at the spot during the time of the incident, should be included in the list of accused.

“Three people — Sanjay Rana, Kancchi and Ompal —confessed during the proceedings that they were present at the spot. Kancchi and Ompal said they had caught hold on Ikhalq while Sanjay said he called the police. The police must now add their names in the FIR of murder and assault. We will move an application in the court soon in this regard,” said Saifi.

Eighteen persons, including three juveniles, have been nabbed on charges of murder and assault in the case. Two of the juveniles later were granted bail by the court.

“While trying to prove that Ikhlaq slaughtered a cow, the trio confessed to their role in the crime as well. Sanjay Rana is the father of an accused,” said Saifi.

Rana, a former BJP worker, however, said he himself had submitted his call records to the court to prove that he and his family were innocent.

“Yes, I was the first one to make a call to the police. But how does it prove that I was involved in the incident. I informed the police that a cow has been slaughtered at 10.28pm on September 28 last year. I have voluntarily submitted my call details to the court so that there is no confusion. I am not hiding anything,” said Rana.

The police maintained that they had completed their investigation, arrested all the accused and filed a chargesheet in the case.

“We have not received any application to add any more names in the FIR. We will see what can be done if such an application is moved,” said Anurag Singh, deputy superintendent of police, Dadri.
