Crime spree continues in Noida, 3 shot at during robbery attempt

Three persons were shot at during an alleged robbery bid on Friday night. Police said all victims are out of danger.

The incident took place around 11pm when Ghaziabad resident Rahul was returning from Shipra mall with his fiancee Akanksha on his motorbike, the police said.

Rahul was travelling towards Sector 62 to drop Akanksha at her hostel when two persons on a bike tried to intercept them.

"The assailants were unsuccessful in snatching Akanksha's bag. All of a sudden, they started shooting at them. They fired 2-3 rounds in the couple's direction and fled the spot," said Pradeep Singh, senior sub-inspector, Sector 58 police station.

The police said the bullet missed Rahul and Akanksha and hit a man who was travelling in a shared autorickshaw.

"The bullet hit Shirish, a resident of Ghaziabad, in his leg. The assailants fled the spot after the incident. Passersby informed police and a team rushed to the spot and took the victims to the hospital," Singh said.

"A case was lodged at the Sector 58 police station. We are investigating the case from every angle," he said.

Akanksha works as an accountant in a real estate firm in Delhi. Rahul and Shirish both work in private firms in Noida and Delhi, respectively.

"The investigation is in its primary stage, so it is hard to say anything. The victims, however, said they did not have any enmity with anyone," Singh said.

Asked about the weapon used, police said they suspect that it was a .32 calibre bore revolver or pistol.

"A team has been constituted to investigate the case. It seems like the assailants used the NH-24 to escape to Ghaziabad. We have informed our Ghaziabad counterparts about the incident," he said.

"Footage from the CCTV cameras is being scanned for clues that can identify the attackers," he said.
