Ritu’s father Vishambhar Yadav, had preserved her body in a mango orchard in Kannauj alleging foul play and claimed that his daughter was murdered. The police said she took the extreme step because she was wary of facing her parents after accusations of shoplifting from a department store.
“The doctors confirmed that there is no difference between the first and second postmortem reports. All injuries and cause of death turned out to be the same. We are still probing a case of suicide. Four of her flatmates were arrested on abetment to suicide charges. However, if we find anything suspicious, we will probe each aspect,” said Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.
The investigators also claimed that no signs of scuffle was found at the 17th floor of the building from where she allegedly jumped off.

In her ‘suicide’ note, Ritu had accused her four flatmates of mentally and physically torturing her. The flatmates were later arrested and sent to jail.
“The father of the victim said he will now perform the last rites of his daughter. A team of district administration accompanied the local Kannauj administration during the autopsy,” Yadav said.
The police said in her four-page suicide note Ritu had accused her flatmates, all girls pursuing different courses in private universities, of attacking her with a beer bottle.
“Her flatmates had informed her parents about the shoplifting accusation after the department store owner threatened legal action. She (Ritu) was upset over the issue. Her parents were supposed to meet her on the day she committed suicide. She was apprehensive about her parents’ reaction,” said an officer investigating the case.
