Bisada lynching: Court grants bail to one juvenile accused

The Allahabad high court on Thursday granted bail to one of the three juveniles who are named as accused in the Bisada lynching case. The accused will be released from the juvenile home next week.

“Bail application of the juvenile accused was moved on Thursday. The court granted him bail in a late evening proceeding. The orders have not been received yet. He is likely to be released from the juvenile detention centre by the next week,” Ram Sharan Nagar, counsel of the accused, said.

On the night of September 28, 55-year-old Mohammad Ikhlaq and his son Danish were attacked by a mob of locals at their residence in Bisada village of Dadri area, around 50 km from Delhi, over allegations of slaughtering a cow and storing its meat for consumption.

Ikhlaq had succumbed to injuries in the hospital on September 29 while Danish, 21, survived with a fractured skull. The attackers had recovered a bowl of meat from Ikhlaq’s fridge, which they claimed was cow meat. The meat’s forensic report has been submitted to the Gautam Budh Nagar’s fast track court in a sealed envelope.

However, the forensic report is yet to be made public.

An FIR was registered against 19 persons and 10-12 unidentified persons. Eighteen of the accused were arrested and one was discharged as he was verified to be elsewhere when the incident took place. The police have already filed an FIR against all 18 accused persons.

“Three of the accused are lodged in the juvenile detention centre. Now, we will seek bail for the rest of the juvenile accused. We are likely to get the statements of Shaista, Ikhlaq’s daughter, who is the witness in the case, on June 6,” Nagar said.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 6.
