15 sectors around Noida expressway to benefit from substation upgrade

There is good news for power consumers on both sides of the Noida-Greater Noida expressway. The capacity of the Sector 129 substation has been enhanced, giving them better voltage supply.

“The existing 63 MVA substation has been replaced with a 100 MVA substation. The system has been energised. This is going to benefit consumers, including those living in group housing societies situated on both sides of the expressway,” said Puneet Gupta, executive engineer, Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL).
He said over 75,000 power consumers in 15 sectors will benefit from the upgrade. The areas that will get better supply include sectors 45, 99, 100, 104, 105, 108, 82, 91, 92, 93, 110, 135, 136, 137 and 138.
The executive engineer said the 63 MVA substation would not have been able to take the summer load as it was already running at peak capacity. “The demand in the areas that were being supplied power from the 63 MVA substation would have risen to 70 MVA and 80 MVA in peak summer. Hence, the need for a 100 MVA substation,” he said.
Gupta said in view of the rise in demand, there was a need to upgrade the capacity of the substation. “As the colonies fed by Sector 129 substation are developing, the number of consumers as well as their demand is bound to increase. Besides the increase in the number of consumers in these upcoming areas, the existing consumers also upgrade their gadgets and leads to more consumption,” he said.
According to Gupta, some consumers replace their desert coolers with air-conditioners while others increase the number of air-conditioners on their premises, resulting in an increased power demand. “The upgraded substation will take care of the incremental load in the area,” he said.
Consumers said they have started feeling the difference. “I did not know about the substation upgrade. But the power supply has certainly improved in the last couple of days. The voltage supplied to our house has also gone up. I hope the situation stays the same through the summer,” said Ram Veer Sharma of Sector 108.
