Tulsi Kumar: When I see Shivaay smile, it just makes my day, he’s my no. 1 priority
The singer talks about how her priorities have changed and music has taken a back seat after the birth of her son.
Bollywood singer Tulsi Kumar has been to Jaipur several times after she married city-based businessman Hitesh Ralhan in 2015, but this visit is different. She is visiting her in-laws for the first time with her four-month-old son, Shivaay. The 32-year-old is still gushing over motherhood and can’t stop talking about the amazing things that this phase has brought into her life.

“Shivaay has recently started responding to smiles. When I see him smile in the morning, it just makes my day,” she says, adding, “He’s my number 1 priority.”
The daughter of music mogul Gulshan Kumar, Tulsi’s recent song, Raat Kamaal Hai with Punjabi sensation Guru Randhawa has become a party sensation within a few days of its release on April 26. “It’s sort of a comeback song. I was not performing or recording in the last trimester of my pregnancy but I was working from home, planning my futures projects,” she shares.
Another song by Tulsi, Chandani Raatein, will be out by the end of next month. Her sister, Khushali Kumar, who made her screen debut with the video of Tulsi’s Mainu Ishq Da Lagya Rog, the recreated version of the Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991) song, will feature in Chandani Raatein as well.
“In the Kumar family, no one crosses each other’s paths — my brother (Bhushan Kumar) is into film and music production, I am into singing, and Khushali is into acting,” Tulsi says when asked why Khushali features in all her independent songs. The youngest Kumar sibling also she features in Raat Kamaal Hai.

Talking about her future projects, she says she’s sung for Milap Zaveri-directed Satyamev Jayate, which is to be released in August this year. “There are also some untitled film projects whose recordings are yet to begin. I am simultaneously working on independent music, too,” adds the singer known for Tum Jo Aaye Zindagi Mein (Once Upon A Time In Mumbai; 2010), Soch Na Sake (Airlift; 2016), and Sanam Re (Sanam Re; 2016)
She has recorded peppy dance numbers, too, such as Gulabi Aankhe 2.0 (Noor; 2017) and Saiyaan Superstar (Ek Paheli Leela; 2015).
Besides Bollywood tracks, she sings nursery rhymes and does voiceover for stories for a YouTube channel. Now that she’s a mother, Tulsi says she is in a better position to “understand what kids like”.
