Go retro with Mumbai's only vinyl subscription service

Not too many people in Mumbai today own LP (Long Play) records. The Revolver Club, Mahim, is here to change that. Owners Jude de Souza and Parth Pandya have undertaken a two-fold mission. Through their vinyl subscription service, Record of the Month Club, they want to expose people to different genres of music. And they want people to savour that music in “the best way possible”. If you don’t own a turntable, you can buy one from them, with the entry level model costing Rs 20,000.

As part of its monthly subscription for Rs 999, The Revolver Club will send you one LP along with a recipe of a cocktail that goes best with it. While signing up, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about your music taste, which helps them understand your ‘vibe’. “Once we know your favourite artists, bands you hate, favourite song of all time, etc, we can send out records that go with your personality,” de Souza says. A mixologist will then stir up a recipe for a cocktail based on de Souza’s recommendation for the month.

The music they curate spans from hip-hop and jazz to classic rock and grunge. The only genre, however, de Souza vows to never send out is EDM (electronic dance music). The idea is also to promote lesser-known albums by famous musicians. Currently, The Revolver Club sources albums from companies in the USA, Finland and Sweden, but de Souza hopes to eventually create customised LPs.
