He wrote in his suicide note that they “tortured me so much that I could not concentrate on my studies and remained upset”.

Satvinder had committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train in Jhalawar district in Rajasthan on Monday.

The police said Satvinder had named the students in a suicide note recovered from his pocket.

His elder brother Ashok Kumar Dhiman told HT on the phone from Kurukshetra that Satvinder wanted to become an expert instructor in the engineering sector because of which he joined the institute in August 2009.

Satvinder wrote in his note that the seven students tortured him even more when he complained to the authorities about them. Satvinder, who has a two-year-old son, was depressed when he visited his home in Kurukshetra last month but did not tell family members that he had been ragged.

The Jhalawar police said they would send a report to the Mumbai police recommending that at a case of abetment to suicide be registered against the seven students named by Satvinder.

In Mumbai, ATI authorities denied having received any complaint from Satvinder.

“Neither (Satvinder) Kumar nor his family members ever communicated to us verbally or in writing that he was being ragged by other students. Since the time the institute came into being (1963), we have not received any complaint of ragging,” said R.K. Pathak, director of ATI.
