Govt spent Rs 3.65 crore on Adarsh commission

The state has spent Rs 3.65 crore on the Adarsh commission, which was functional for 27 months. The establishment expenditure of the commission was Rs6.5 lakh a month, including the remuneration given to the two members of the panel.

After the scam came to light, the state appointed a two-member commission led by retired justice JA Patil in January 2011. The two members each received Rs1.6 lakh a month. The counsel was paid Rs 40,000 for each appearance, while his assistant received Rs 5,000 an appearance.

There were 22 government employees, including two class I officers, two class II officers, three assistants, six clerks, three stenographers and four peons. An officer from the general administration department (GAD) said the department had spent a huge sum to renovate the 4,000 square ft space at the Old Customs house, used as the panel’s office.

The process of dismantling the office began on Monday. A GAD officer said the documents will be handed over to government. “The documents include records and supportive documents corroborating the findings of the records. We have started taking them into possession,” he added.
