Vile Parle hotel firing: Cops checking number left behind by suspect

One of the accused gave the attendant a card bearing a threat to kill the owner, as well as a 16-digit phone number

The police investigating the firing at a restaurant in Vile Parle (East) by an alleged gangster on Friday around 10.35 pm, said they are trying to trace the person whose phone number the suspect left behind.

A police official from the Vile Parle police station said a special team of officers has been formed and the case is has been designated top priority. The local crime branch Unit 8 is also conducting a parallel probe.

Two unidentified men arrived on a bike and allegedly fired at an employee at the Gajalee restaurant with a pistol-like weapon. One of the accused, who had covered his face with a handkerchief and was wearing a black cap gave the attendant a card bearing a threat to kill the owner, as well as a 16-digit phone number.

The police said they are checking CCTV cameras in the vicinity and on the arterial roads around the hotel to see if the biker can be spotted. No concrete leads have been established so far.

The police said they have been unable to draw a sketch of the accused. They have also not found out the registration number of his bike.

The Vile Parle police have found a bullet casing at the spot.
