Two arrested for trying to deposit ₹93,000 in fake notes at bank in Mumbai
Initially, a man tried to deposit 93 notes of Rs1,000 denomination in the bank and fled when the cashier caught his bluff.
Two people were arrested by Pydhonie police on Friday for trying to deposit Rs93,000 in fake notes in Punjab and Maharashtra Co-Operative (PMC) Bank.

Initially, a man tried to deposit 93 notes of Rs1,000 denomination in the bank and fled when the cashier caught his bluff. Assistant police inspector Vijaykumar Ruchankar from Pydhonie police station said, “One person visited the Carnac Bunder branch of the Co-Operative Bank on Friday afternoon and while trying to take benefit of the huge crowd, he attempted to deposit Rs 93,000 in fake Rs1,000 notes in the bank. But the cashier realised that the notes were fake and tried to intercept the person who managed to escape.”
A complaint was then registered at the Pydhonie police station and the cops scrutinised the CCTV footage to identify the accused.
“The accused — Shivaji Pawar (51) — who fled from the spot, was an account holder in the bank and we nabbed him from his Thane residence on getting his details from the bank,” said another police sub-inspector Shinde.
During the course of the investigation, the cops learnt that Pawar, who works with Bombay Port trust, received the fake notes from one Prabhunath Goyal (34). “Later, Goyal was too arrested from his residence at Chembur, and now we are trying to get the details of the person from whom Goyal got the fake banknotes,” said Ruchankar.
The police have booked the two accused under sections 489, 489 (B) (C) (tampering with property mark with intent to cause injury) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and have been remanded to police custody till November 24.
