Tree collapses in Mumbai, kills Navy surgeon’s 14-year-old son

Mumbai city news: Rahul Vipin Kumar was talking to someone on the phone when the tree fell on him and crushed him

A14-year-old boy, the son of a surgeon in the Navy, died after a tree fell on him near Navy Nagar at Colaba on Tuesday.

The police have identified the boy as Rahul Vipin Kumar, a Class 8 student. His family lives at Navy Nagar. His father, a colonel-rank officer, works as a surgeon at INS Ashwini Hospital at Navy Nagar.

The police said that the incident took place at Nofra at 12.30pm when Kumar was walking on the road and talking on his phone.

An officer from Cuffe Parade police station said, “He was taking a stroll and was going to meet one of his friends. He was talking to someone on the phone when the tree fell on him and crushed him.”

Kumar was taken to INS Ashwini Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.

The police have recorder the incident as an accidental death and are investigating.

Manoj Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (zone 1), confirmed the incident and said, “The tree was apparently
weak.”
