Three of a family commit suicide in Mumbai’s Cuffe Parade
Police said the family was depressed since their daughter’s death and had gradually stopped talking to their neighbours.
Three members of a family of a fisherman hanged themselves at their house in Cuffe Parade on Friday morning.

According to the officers of Cuffe Parade police station, Pravin Patel, 40, his wife Reena, 35, and their 11-year-old son, were all residents of Machchimar Nagar. The family had been suffering from depression after the death of their 14-year-old daughter a few months ago.
The incident came to light when neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the family’s house. The police said doors of the house were bolted from inside for the past two days and had to be broken open.
The police said they have not found any suicide note. Rashmi Jadhav, senior inspector, Cuffe Parade police station said the family was suffering from depression since their daughter’s death and had gradually stopped talking to their neighbours. They mostly remained indoors. “Patel was poor and could not afford the treatment of his daughter who had cancer. Patel felt guilty for his daughter’s death,” said an officer. The police said they are investigating the reason behind the suicides.
