Did OML founder Vijay Nair’s stalker hack Maharashtra police chief’s official email?

The Mumbai cyber police are probing a case in which a woman accused of stalking and harassing OML founder Vijay Nair allegedly impersonated the director general of Maharashtra police using his official email ID (dgpms.mumbai@mahapolice.gov.in).

The cyber cell police are investigating if an unknown accused hacked the official account or the accused sent an email from a fake mailer portal.

In the email she claimed to have received from DGP Satish Mathur’s official email ID on July 5, she gave herself a clean chit in the stalking case registered against her with the NM Joshi Marg police station.

“After I was informed, I asked the BKC cyber crime cell to inquire into the matter and submit a report,” Mathur said.

The email came into play after a Delhi-based CEO, who is the woman’s friend, asked her what had happened to the case involving Nair. In May, Nair spoke publicly about how he was stalked and mentally harassed by the woman.

The woman then forwarded a mail to the Delhi-based CEO that she claimed to have received from Mathur.

From November 2015 till February 2016, Nair along with his women colleagues were allegedly stalked and mentally harassed by an unknown number, which was connected to a virtual private network. The accused woman, who was Nair’s former colleague, also claimed she was being harassed and helped him to try and track the number.

Nair said after learning the woman was behind the mysterious and threatening mails and messages, he spoke to the authorities.

In order to convince Nair, the woman had even used the names of the then crime branch chief Himanshu Roy and Salman Khan’s bodyguard Shera.

A case of mental harassment and stalking was registered with the NM Joshi Marg police and the woman allegedly confessed to the crime during the course of investigation but is yet to be arrested.

After the confession, however, the woman, who was then working with The Viral Fever (TVF) claimed its founder Arunabh Kumar forced her to commit the crime.

The police plan to gather evidence against the woman before arresting her. They have seized her laptop and two mobile phones that have been sent to the forensic department.

The email sent on July 5 allegedly from the DGP’s official email ID also alleged the IP addresses of the mails and messages have been traced back to the TVF internet domain.

The cyber cell department has initiated their investigation and have collected the FIR copy, which was registered with the NM Joshi police station.
