Addressing a review meeting of office-bearers of the Mumbai Congress after the Lok Sabha elections, city unit chief Milind Deora on Monday said he would not tolerate factionalism and hoped for discipline within its ranks.

He also asked party leaders to gear up for the Assembly elections and said the party would prepare a detailed vision document for the city. “The party will engage with developmental economists, social scientists and citizens in a big way to roll out a plan that helps Mumbai achieve its deserving place on the world map,” read a statement from the Mumbai Congress.
Factionalism has been ailing the city unit of the Congress for the past few years. Reports suggest the Mumbai Congress factions worked against party candidates in the LS elections. Apart from office-bearers, four of the five Lok Sabha candidates of the Congress from Mumbai also attended the meet. Former Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam was not present as he was travelling.
City legislator Amin Patel said, “Deora said there is only one group – the one led by party chief Rahul Gandhi. He said he will be very firm in dealing with any anti-party activity. He said the 36 seats in Mumbai are crucial for the Maharashtra Assembly and leaders and workers should not come out of poll mode.”
Charanjeet Singh Sapra, vice-president of Mumbai Congress, said, “Deora said factionalism should end.”
