Labourer assaulted while trying to save an elderly from harassment in Mumbai

A 45-year-old labourer was abused and assaulted by a man after he intervened and tried to save a 60-year-old woman from being harassed recently. The labourer has a fractured leg. Both the accused and the elderly fled from the spot.

Recently, the MRA Marg police were informed by the control room that a man has been found lying on the roads with an injured leg, following which the police went to the spot and admitted him at St George hospital. After recording the statement of Yadav, MRA Marg police registered a case against an unknown pharmacist and have started looking for him.

The victim identified as Vanraj Ramsingh Yadav (45) worked as a labour in Crawford Market and was on his way home from work when he found that a druggist was harassing the 60-year-old woman for money. He then intervened and asked the man to leave.

Police sub-inspector Santosh Jadhav from MRA Marg police station said, “The druggist picked up an iron rod and attacked the labour with it. The victim couldn’t retaliate and the elderly woman quitely left he spot.”

Later the police admitted him at ST George hospital and registered the case. Yadav who originally hails from Uttar Pradesh had arrived in the city few years ago and since then he has been working as a labourer.

The accused has been booked under section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC while police are trying to locate him.
