Indrani Mukerjea files complaint against Mumbai jail officials who beat her up after inmate’s death
Jailed former media entrepreneur Indrani Mukerjea on Thursday filed a complaint against jail officials, who allegedly assaulted her after the death of an inmate, Manjula Shetye.

Six jail officials allegedly beat Shetye, a murder convict, to death in Byculla woman’s prison because she complained some food items were missing from the morning ration.
According to the police, Mukerjea filed an application with the Nagpada police, but an FIR hasn’t been filed yet. The police will first conduct an inquiry into the allegations.
The police, meanwhile, booked 291 prisoners, including Mukerjea, for creating ruckus inside the jail after Shetye’s death.
While unit three of the crime branch will probe the murder case, the Nagpada police will look into the rioting case.
Mukerjea told a court on Wednesday the Byculla jail staff threatened her with the same fate as Shetye if she deposed against them. Mukerjea said the superintendent told her ‘tu witness banne ja rahi hai.... tereko bhi dekh lenge’.
Mukerjea, accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, told the court she was in barrack number 2 and saw Shetye being dragged by a dupatta that was tied around her neck to barrack number 5.
She said she heard Shetye was assaulted by the jail staff and a lathi was inserted in her private parts. “After this, I contacted my advocate and demanded that an FIR be filed,” Mukerjea told the court.
The court then allowed Mukerjea to file the FIR against the jail staff with Nagpada police station.
