FYJC admissions: 1.17 lakh seats up for grabs in special round
Around 50,000 seats from various quotas in minority colleges were surrendered and merged into the general pool
More than 1.17 lakh seats at junior colleges in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are up for grabs in the special admission round, for which the merit list will be declared on August 18. The state education department released a revised seat matrix on Monday.

Around 50,000 seats from various quotas in minority colleges were surrendered and merged into the general pool, thus increasing the number of available seats. Students who are yet to secure seats can now access the revised seat matrix on the official admissions website and fill in colleges of their choice by 6pm on Tuesday.
More than 60,000 students across MMR are yet to be admitted in colleges despite the state education department conducting four admission rounds this year. With the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court asking minority institutes to surrender unclaimed quota seats only at the end of the Centralised Admission Process(CAP), thousands of aspirants wanting to get into top minority colleges in the city were left in the lurch. Many are now hoping to claim those seats after colleges surrendered their vacant quota.
“Despite scoring well, I did not get the college of my choice in the first four rounds as most seats were stuck in the minority pool. I’m now going to apply during the special round,” said one of the aspirants.
Top colleges in the city such as Jai Hind, KC, HR, and Mithibai have a few vacant seats with the revised seat matrix.
“We are getting a lot of requests from top scorers who couldn’t secure admission in our institute owing to the changed matrix. Hopefully, all such students will get a seat this time” said the principal of a south Mumbai college.
Students who have not been allotted any college or who have not confirmed their admissions would be eligible for this round. Those students who have cancelled their admissions and those who have not taken colleges of their first preference would be eligible for admissions only on first come, first served round, which will be declared after the special merit-based round.
