Degree college admissions in Mumbai: ISC and CBSE students ahead in the race
State authorities said 38,291 students have scored distinction in Mumbai, of which 2,288 students have got above 90%.
Competition for seats in sought-after degree colleges could be tougher this year also, especially for HSC students. Colleges said the first merit list could have more students from the national boards since compared to the state education board since more students in CBSE and ISC have crossed the 95%-and above mark.

According to the Maharashtra Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), 38,291 students have scored distinction (75% and above) in Mumbai, of which 2,288 students have scored above 90%.
More than 1.25 lakh students got distinction in the state, of which 5,486 students cleared with 80% and above. “The number of students clearing HSC with 90% and above has almost doubled in the state. Only 1,701 students in Mumbai and 3,819 students in the state had cleared the mark last year,” said a senior official from the state board office in Pune.
However, the number of HSC students scoring above 90% is still not good when compared to CBSE Class 12 and ISC results.
“Almost 68% of my batch scored above distinction this year and nearly 25 students have scored above 90%,” said Vijay Sarode, principal of Mulund College of Commerce. However, in some ISC and CBSE schools in the city, more than 50% of the batch scored above 90%. “Admissions are bound to get trickier for HSC students, especially to self-financed courses,” added Sarode.
Aarti Vora, 18, a student of Jai Hind College scored 90.02% in her HSC exam but is not sure if she’ll manage to bag a seat in the BAF course of her college. “As there is no in-house quota for self-financed courses, I hope my score is enough to get a seat,” said Vora.
