Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena asked to vacate offices to make way for Metro 3 in Mumbai

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has issued notices to three political parties — Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena—asking them to temporarily vacate their party offices by December 26 as it plans to start work on the underground metro corridor that will link Colaba and SEEPZ in Andheri (east)

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has issued notices to three political parties — Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena—asking them to temporarily vacate their party offices by December 26 as it plans to start work on the underground metro corridor that will link Colaba and SEEPZ in Andheri (east).

According to MMRC, the political parties have been provided with office space at Thackersey House in Ballard Estate. The MMRC notice, that was issued on December 13, says that the political parties should take possession of the new office by December 26 and handover the party offices on the Free Press Journal Marg to MMRC for it to complete the work on the 33.5 km metro corridor on schedule.

MMRC officials said the shifting is for a period of three years and it will construct new offices for them in the Nariman Point area. Other political parties that will be temporarily relocated include the Bharatiya Republican Party, the Bahujan Mahasangh, the Peasant and Workers Party, the Samajwadi Party and two others. Besides, 25 government offices will also be relocated to Ballard Estate.

The Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro is Mumbai’s first and the country’s longest underground metro rail corridor, estimated to cost Rs23,136 crore.
