Exams to select constables for Mumbai commissionerate have been going on for a month

The VP Road police arrested a 21-year-old aspirant and booked another for cheating during police recruitment exams.

Exams to select constables for Mumbai commissionerate have been going on for a month.

Vilas Ambildhage, 21, managed to clear the physical test but was not confident of cracking the written exam as his general knowledge was weak. So, he made his friend Sajjan Sataware, 21, take the test instead of him, the police said.

Sataware, also an aspirant, had taken his tests from the Buldana commissionerate but failed the physical exams.

An officer from VP road police station said, “They are from Aurangabad and had become friends two months ago and decided to take the recruitment exams together. But when Sataware failed his physical tests, Ambildhage convinced him to take write the exam in his stead and even offered some money.”

On Wednesday, Sataware reached the exam centre, a school in South Mumbai, where examiners got suspicious after checking his hall ticket.

“He was carrying a black and white photocopy of the form which carried a photo. We got suspicious as he was not carrying the original hall ticket and asked him for his Aadhaar card,” said an officer. “The suspect resembled the man in the photo but had some doubts. We let him finish the exam before questioning him and he confessed to the crime,” he added.

The police registered a case against Sataware and will produce him in court on Thursday. They are yet to arrest Ambildhage who was in Aurangabad during the exam.
