Ghate’s mother runs an eatery, which Singh frequented. The duo were in a relationship, which Ghate opposed.

According to the police, Ghate was infuriated when he saw Singh sleeping in their house on Monday night.

“The accused kicked Singh in the head and banged it on the floor,” said Akhilesh Kumar Singh, deputy commissioner of police, zone 7.

Ghate’s mother then approached the Mulund police station and informed them of the incident. Singh, who was bleeding, was then taken to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

The police learnt that the accused had fled to Boisar from where was arrested on Tuesday and a case was registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
